Multifamily Households Across California Are Paying a Lot More to Charge Their Electric Vehicle

This publication from the University of California Institute of Transportation Studies (UC ITS) examines inequities in electric vehicle charging costs for California residents without access to home charging, specifically those living in multifamily housing (MFH). Co-authored by Dwight MacCurdy, a member of the National Charging Access Coalition’s leadership team, the study compares public fast-charging prices with residential electricity rates across SMUD, SDG&E, and PG&E service areas using data from PlugShare, charging provider pricing, and utility rates.
